Forensic Psychiatric Examination

One of the main areas of activities of the Institute of Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatric Examination and Drug Monitoring of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine is to carry out forensic psychiatric examinations, as well as organizational, academic, and methodological support for forensic psychiatric expert activities.

Types of forensic psychiatric examinations carried out by the Institute:

Criminal proceedings

  • Forensic psychiatric examination of the suspects and accused
  • Forensic psychiatric examination of the witnesses
  • Forensic psychiatric examination of the victims
  • Forensic psychiatric examination of the convicts (Art. 84 of Criminal Code)

Civil trials

  • Forensic psychiatric examination in the trials on limiting the civil capacity of an individual, recognizing an individual incapacitated
  • Forensic psychiatric examination in the trials on recognizing a committed act invalid (Art. 225 of Civil Code)
  • Forensic psychiatric examination in the trials on annulling a marriage invalid or dissolving a marriage
  • Forensic psychiatric examination in the trials on the opportunity to be engaged in bringing up children
  • Forensic psychiatric examination in the trials on disputing the psychiatric diagnosis, the need for providing psychiatric care, its type, and procedure
