The Institute of Forensic Psychiatry is a specialized institution authorized to conduct forensic examinations, namely: forensic psychiatric, forensic psychological, and comprehensive forensic examinations. These evaluations are conducted by the Forensic Examination Center in Kyiv and Forensic Examination Branches in 22 Ukrainian regions.

The Institute employs forensic psychiatrists and psychologists who, under Article 10 of the Law of Ukraine on Forensic Expertise, have the relevant higher education, an educational and qualification level not lower than that of a specialist, have undergone relevant training, have obtained the qualification of a forensic expert, and have the right to conduct all types of forensic psychiatric and forensic psychological examinations in criminal proceedings and civil cases.
